Travel retail’s unofficial gin ambassador John Gallagher also proves highly adept at Strange Predictions

IRELAND. Veteran travel retail executive John Gallagher is the winner of our third Strange Predictions* contest hosted by Strange Nature Gin of New Zealand.

We asked readers to predict the scoreline of the compelling rugby international match between Ireland and the All Blacks of New Zealand played last Friday in Dublin.

As with all our Strange Predictions competitions, the winner receives a bottle of the outstanding Strange Nature Gin, whose spirit base is drawn from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Strange indeed.

John took out the spoils with a prediction almost as accurate as a Damian McKenzie penalty goal attempt, opting for a 2415 scoreline, just a three-point differential compared with the final 2313 result.

The result came as the perfect tonic for John, a gin man through and through. So much so that his consultancy company in Belén de Escobar, Buenos Aires province, Argentina is called G&T. And for much of the 1990s he was Export Director for famed Spanish gin Larios.

Most of last week’s travel retail pundits (including multiple Aer Rianta International executives to a man and woman) plumped for an Irish victory. Could this mean a groupwide listing for Strange Nature Gin from New Zealand as way of a diplomatic apology?

But there were commendable, near-winning efforts from Forward Keys Retail & Travel Retail Customer Success Manager Jérôme Goldberg with 2420 to the men in black (differential 8) and Aussie James Kfouri, Director of Sales, Oceania, SE Asia, CaSA & Global Travel Retail at Wonderful Pistachios & Almonds, who showed admirable support for his trans-Tasman cousins with a 2818 scoreline (differential 10).

Black or Blue? White or Green & Gold?

For our next Strange Predictions contest, we are sticking to rugby but this time with two results at stake from blockbuster internationals to be played on Saturday 16 November.

  1. Who will win the following matches? Or will one or both be a draw?
  2. What will be the respective scorelines?

Rules:

    • Entries will first be assessed on correctly answering question 1. From that cull the winner will be whoever picks the closest score differential (e.g. If  South Africa wins 25-13 and your prediction is 20-15 your differential would be 7; similarly if you pick Les Bleus to trounce the All Blacks 35-10 and they win 21-12 your differential would be 16).
    • Only entries from bona-fide members of the travel retail and aviation community will be accepted.
    • Judge’s decision is final.

Send your answers to: Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com headed ‘Strange Predictions – Green or Black’ before the England v South Africa kick-off on 16 November.

Strange Predictions

Strange Nature, the quirky super-premium New Zealand gin, has gained impressive traction in travel retail and selected local markets since its launch in October 2021, is partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report in a pioneering readers’ competition called Strange Predictions.

The year-round programme will feature a series of predictive contests designed to test readers’ punditry skills across a myriad of events, ranging from sporting contests to political elections and other intriguing – and sometimes strange – events.

Strange Nature General Manager – Owner Rhys Julian said: “At Strange Nature we like to embrace the strange.  We consider our gin to be stranger than most, considering its grape origins, one botanical as well as sustainability and traceability credentials.

“Therefore, in fitting with the brand we thought partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report’s Strange Predictions was a perfect fit. A fun competition for everyone, slightly left of centre, is very much our vibe.”
