Düsseldorf Airport’s Art Walk claims Medici Needle award for Best Overall Corporate Concept

GERMANY. Düsseldorf Airport has claimed a Medici Needle (Nadel der Medici) award, from the Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici Association, for its innovative Art Walk exhibition.

The Art Walk featured in our Airports as Artports column in August. This was followed up by our interview with Düsseldorf Airport Head of Commercial Operations Pia Klauck and Media Manager Tankred Stachelhaus.

They discussed Düsseldorf Airport’s vision to be a ‘destination of excellence’ and how the Art Walk is an example of that mission, as the company supports local artists while simultaneously balancing commercial interests. The interview can be accessed here.

In a first for an airport, the German hub was honoured by the association in the Best Overall Corporate Concept category. The prize is awarded every two years to companies that successfully promote the combination of business and art.

The Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici Association was founded in 2009 to promote partnership and dialogue between the commercial and art sectors. Its aim is to strengthen Germany’s Rhineland as an art region so that cooperation between companies, art institutions and artists “becomes a matter of course”.

By awarding the Nadel der Medici business prize, the association recognises outstanding achievements, projects and successful strategies that use art specifically to support business objectives or to enhance the reputation of art institutions. The award is open to companies that have made a sustained commitment to art, as well as art institutions that have succeeded in generating interest in their organisations or special exhibitions.
