USA. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today authorised Swedish Match’s ZYN nicotine pouches, marking a milestone for the Philip Morris International (PMI) subsidiary.
ZYN is the first nicotine pouch to gain FDA approval, offering adults over 21 a safer alternative to cigarettes and traditional tobacco products.
The move supports PMI’s commitment to delivering a smoke-free future as it strengthens its portfolio with products outside the tobacco and nicotine sector.
Swedish Match North America President Tom Hayes said: “An estimated 45 million Americans regularly consume nicotine and about 30 million of them smoke, the most harmful form of nicotine consumption.
“The FDA’s decision recognises the role that ZYN can play in the protection of the public health by helping people switch from cigarettes and other traditional tobacco products.”
PMI Duty Free Vice President Beste Ermaner remarked: “The FDA’s decision to authorise the marketing of 20 ZYN products is very welcome news for PMI.
“This will undoubtedly strengthen awareness of the product in airport duty-free stores across the US region.”
The approved ZYN nicotine pouches include Cool Mint, Peppermint, Spearmint, Wintergreen, Citrus, Coffee, Cinnamon, Smooth, Chill and Menthol flavours, each available in 3mg and 6mg nicotine strengths.
