Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Duty Free Global from Ireland, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.
SWEDEN. Our latest selection of images comes from Avolta-run Stockholm Duty Free at Arlanda Airport Terminal 5, which carries a distinctive Scandinavian look and clear stop points in the dedicated, marked out zones for each core duty-free category. The Moodie Davitt Report paid a visit last week, with President Dermot Davitt chairing the annual Nordic Travel Retail Seminar on 12 June.
In a celebration of Swedish design there are strong natural cues in the use of wood and greenery throughout the flagship walk-through store. Digital technology also features prominently in the many campaigns dotted around the space, with neat touches such as an influencer-inspired beauty selection and a call to action to join the Club Avolta loyalty programme an unmissable feature near the tills.

The vital role of liquor in Nordic travel retail is reflected in a series of spaces that champion both local products and global hero brands from whisky (Scotch is a critical sector for retailers targeting Swedish travellers) to gin and vodka.

Avolta’s flagship store is at the heat of T5’s The Marketplace, the largest commercial venture in the airport’s history led by operator Swedavia. As reported, the space was recently named ‘Commercial Space of the Year 2025 (under 25,000sq m)’ for Sweden by industry association Nordic Commercial Spaces & Communities (NCSC).
The Marketplace at Sweden’s leading airport includes 40 restaurants and shops in an area covering around 11,000sq m. ✈
