The company describes its approach to sustainability as “a daily commitment”. “For Santa Margherita good wine can only come from a pristine environment, where nature is free to follow its own rules and not be forced,” the company added.
Its commitment to sustainability is summarised in five pillars:
- The adoption of strict protocols in its vineyards, aimed at reducing the use of chemicals
- Carbon Neutrality
- Use of energy from renewable sources and a biomass power plant
- Zero Kilometre: Most of its wine bottles are made in the glassworks close to the company’s fermentation cellar.
- Raflatac’s RafCycle programme which allows Santa Margherita to recuperate waste from self-adhesive labels.
According to Santa Margherita, the company “has innovation, exploration, and creativity in its blood, and has always adapted to the changes in taste that have occurred in the last 60 years of Italian wine.
“Our intuition allows us to take new paths, unafraid to try new techniques and flavours, and we believe the strength of today’s Italian winemaking tradition is in part because of our courage to look to the future,” Santa Margherita added.
As reported, the wine company marked the 70th anniversary of its Prosecco Superiore with a series of promotions at selected airports in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Central America late last year.
Santa Margherita noted that when it started producing Prosecco Superiore, it was part of a select group of pioneering wineries which contributed to transforming Prosecco into a “formidable ambassador for the Italian way of life”.
“In these first 70 years, the quest for excellence has never stopped. From being a pioneer, Santa Margherita has become a proud ambassador for top-quality production, making a proactive contribution to transforming a local bubbly into one of the world’s best-known and most popular sparkling wines,” the company said.
Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. Brut boasts a fine perlage, with aromas of ripe pineapples, peaches and Rennet apples as well as delicate florals.
Santa Margherita’s Pinot Grigio made its debut over 60 years ago and continues to be its flagship: “a wine that has made a huge contribution to the development of Italian winemaking, revolutionising both the national and foreign markets”.
“Today, our mission is to make the pairing of wine and food an experience which is ever more engaging, through ceaselessly exploring new routes in taste and in the joy of wine,” the company added.
The Santa Margherita portfolio includes a Margherita Line with Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG and Spumante Rosé Brut while the classic Line features Pinot Grigio Valdadige, Chardonnay Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT, Rosé Trevenezie IGT, Merlot Veneto IGT, Chianti Classico DOCG and Cabernet Sauvignon Veneto IGT.
