Diptyque has marked the latest stage in its 60th anniversary celebrations by releasing the limited-edition 2020 Summer Essentials Collection.
The fragrance line comprises the llio Eau de Toilette Ilio Hair Mist, Citronelle & Geranium Summer Body Spray, Citronelle interior candle (190g), Citronelle exterior candle (1.5kg) and Vinaigre de Toilette.
The Ilio edt, Ilio hair mist, Citronelle & Geranium Summer Body Spray and interior candle are now available in worldwide travel retail.
The limited-edition collection takes inspiration from the Mediterranean landscapes that two of Diptyque’s founders, Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet, frequently visited in the 1960s. The Summer 2021 line takes olfactory ingredients from Italy, Provence and the Greek islands to recreate the scents of the Mediterranean, which Diptyque’s founders describe as the ‘landscape of the soul’.
The Ilio fragrance, the line’s hero product, takes its name from the Greek word for sun. The fruity floral scent opens with prickly pear top notes, blended with Bergamot, Jasmine and Iris.
The Citronelle scent, available in body spray and candle formats, builds on the natural mosquito-repellent properties of citronelle.
In addition to citronelle, the body spray combines base essential oils of lemongrass, geranium and lemon eucalyptus for enhanced mosquito-repelling efficacy. The launch of the body spray marks a first for Diptyque and combines citronelle’s tangy aroma with soft floral notes and a white musk base.
The refreshed Vinaigre de Toilette scent offers a contemporary take on one of the brand’s first products. The updated fragrance combines lavender, rosemary and thyme, and features a lavender fig inserted into each bottle.
The Mediterranean is also a favourite holiday destination of English illustrator Luke Edward Hall, who was commissioned by Diptyque to create special drawings visualising the range.
Hall’s illustrations appear on the line’s bottles, packaging and striking visual campaign.
Hall is known for his bold use of colour and Greek neo-classical style, which complements the brand’s natural inspirations.
His illustrations recreate the beauty and light of the Mediterranean in a modern and joyful manner, while also evoking memories of holidays in the sun.
London-based Hall has collaborated with numerous fashion beauty and luxury houses including: Burberry, Lanvin, Christie’s, Royal Academy of Arts, Richard Ginori, Svenskt Tenn and Habitat.
His works have been exhibited in London, Stockholm, Athens and the US. In 2019, he released his first book ‘Great Disco: The Art & Design of Luke Edward Hall’ with teNeues.
