BAHRAIN. Bahrain Duty Free Company has been awarded new duty free and retail contracts at Bahrain International Airport.
A 10-year contract for the operation of retail outlets in the duty free area and a 15-year core category duty free contract (for which Bahrain Duty Free Company is the incumbent) have been signed.
In line with the agreements, the retail company will invest in a number of new outlets in the departures area of the airport’s new Passenger Terminal Building, it said.
A signing ceremony between Bahrain Duty Free Company and airport operator Bahrain Airport Company took place at the Bahrain International Airshow on Saturday (17 November).
In attendance (pictured above and below) were His Excellency the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Bahrain Airport Company Chairman Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed; Bahrain Duty Free Company Managing Director Abdullah Buhindi; Bahrain Airport Company Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah; and Bahrain Duty Free Company General Manager Bassam Al Wardi.
Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed stated: “We are very pleased to partner with Bahrain Duty Free Company and look forward to working together in the coming months to improve the duty free shopping experience.
“By increasing its investment in Bahrain International Airport’s duty free offerings, Bahrain Duty Free Company is supporting local businesses and helping to ensure that the aviation sector becomes a key driver for growth in commerce and retail. We are confident that passengers travelling through the new terminal will discover a truly transformed shopping experience.”
Buhindi commented: “We are delighted to sign these agreements with Bahrain Airport Company, which will enhance the relationship between our companies and improve the duty free offerings at [the airport].
“We are especially proud to sign the agreement for the operation of core duty free categories. We believe that our 27 years of expertise in this area will help to ensure travellers at the new Passenger Terminal Building will enjoy a first class duty free experience.”
