USA. JFKIAT, the operator of Terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport, has won the Richard A. Griesbach Award of Excellence at the 2015 Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) Airport Concessions Conference, hosted by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Griesbach award, said to be one of the industry’s top honours, aims to inspire creativity in the industry and to recognise innovative and outstanding airport concessions programmes throughout North America.
JFK Terminal 4 also won the award for Best Retail Program at the award ceremony, held on Wednesday 22 April. The award ceremony recognises “innovative spirit and outstanding achievement in airport concession practices” in airports across North America.
JFKIAT President & CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said: “JFKIAT is honoured to be recognised for our hard work to deliver a unique and quality cross-section of some of the best food and beverage and retail establishments for the millions of air travellers who pass through our doors every year. We share this award with our retail and food and beverage partners who work to make the terminal so successful and thank them for their continued commitment to our joint efforts.”
Throughout 2014, Terminal 4 welcomed new brand-name retailers, complementing an extensive duty free offering from DFS Group. These included Michael Kors, Victoria’s Secret, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bluwire, Hugo Boss, Swarovski, Tumi and Longchamp. New touch-screen interactive kiosks, directing travellers to gate locations and retail establishments, were installed in select locations throughout the terminal.
Additionally, an array of premium restaurants that are reflective of New York have recently opened to serve Terminal 4 travellers. Ranging from casual sit-down dining to grab-and-go offerings, the food and beverage portfolio includes two Shake Shack restaurants, Danny Meyer’s Blue Smoke on the Road, and The Palm Restaurant – all of which are said to be local standouts favoured by New Yorkers.
The terminal’s combination of national brands appeals to the growing domestic passenger mix and includes McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, as well as Camden Foods and Buffalo Wild Wings. In the Arrivals Hall, The Central Diner is the only pre-security, full-service, sit-down restaurant at JFK.
A total of 26 restaurants operate in the terminal with six new units to open in 2015.
