THE NETHERLANDS. Ad Rutten (53) has been appointed Schiphol Group’s new Chief Operations Officer and in that position will also serve on the Board of Management.
He will take up the assignment on 1 September 2005, succeeding Marike van Lier Lels. Rutten will be responsible for airport operations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
He currently holds the position of Executive Vice President, Engineering & Maintenance at KLM. The division is responsible for technical maintenance of the KLM fleet and provides services to over a hundred airlines worldwide. He previously held the position of Executive Vice President at KLM Ground Services.
Schiphol Group described Ad Rutten as “an aviation veteran” who has filled various positions at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol from 1979 to 1996. They include those of General Manager of the Airport Terminal responsible for passenger processes, and General Manager Airside, responsible for airside operations. Schiphol Group said: “Mr Rutten has been appointed because of his extensive experience and knowledge of operations and management of the entire airport and aviation processes.”
The position is currently being occupied on an interim basis (until 1 September) by Alain Maca, President of JFK International Air Terminal LLC, the company that manages Terminal 4 at John F Kennedy Airport in New York.
