Paris Orly will be enhanced with 100,000sq m of added space |
FRANCE. New-look and expanded retail, food & beverage and other commercial services will be central to the redevelopment of Paris Orly Airport between now and 2018, according to Aéroports de Paris (AdP).
The company today unveiled details of the transformation of Orly, as part of its “˜Horizon 2018′ initiative.
The six-year renovation programme will unify the two existing terminals, Orly South and Orly West, it will create a new international departures lounge and redevelop all terminal entrances, adding 100,000sq m of new space in total.
The retail layout and offer will be designed to match that of the new S4 satellite at Paris Charles de Gaulle, which opened this year.
At the heart of the development will be a 1,500sq m store that AdP said would be “dedicated to French gastronomy, fragrances, cosmetics and lifestyle products: a collection of the best Paris has to offer.”
The second floor will feature a large central square housing bars and restaurants and a variety of leather seating areas, the airport company added.
AdP said: “Passengers will ultimately have access to well-lit departure lounges, with wide open views onto the aeroplanes. Aéroports de Paris will give them access to a range of services for all ages: PlayStation areas, interactive touch tables for playing family games, SoundCorner music areas and Disney games areas.”

The transformation will include commercial areas set over two levels |
AdP Chairman and CEO Pierre Graff said: “Our objective is to completely transform Paris Orly Airport, to provide passengers with facilities matching the top international standards. We will strengthen the quality of our hospitality and will provide more space and a greater level of comfort for our passengers.”
The nature of traffic at Orly Airport has changed considerably in recent years, AdP noted. The number of national flights has fallen and the percentage of flights outside France has risen from 14% in 2000 to 28% in 2012. This suggest that passengers are spending more time in the terminals, added AdP, making it necessary to provide additional concourses and to improve the consumer experience.
Orly currently comprises two terminals and six departure lounges. By 2018, passengers will have a single terminal and three departure lounges.
Combining Orly South and Orly West is this project’s flagship development, which will add 80,000sq m of space. This will deliver all functions within a single terminal from check-in to security and retail to baggage handling.
In addition, at the East end of Orly South terminal, AdP plans to create a space of almost 20,000sq m composed mainly of a new departure lounge that will handle 80% of international passengers handled in the terminal. Its opening is scheduled for the end of 2015.
Orly Airport Managing Director Franck Mereyde said: “This project is essential for both passengers and airlines operating at Orly Airport. We do not aim at increasing the handling capacity of the airport but rather at radically upgrading the quality of service for our passengers. At this stage, Aéroports de Paris will invest between €400 million and €450 million.”
