Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.6 on display at London City Airport |
Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.6 has gone on sale at London City Airport, with the ultra-rare cognac on display in the Aelia Duty Free shop in the Departures lounge.
Having made its travel retail debut at Singapore Changi Airport in June, the bottle has been displayed in flagship airports in Asia, Europe and America in recent months. Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail is set to take it to key airports in the Middle East later this year.
At London City Airport, special totem columns and display cases have been created, with the crystal surrounded by shards of light to emphasise the delicacy of the cut glass, the rose gold neck and the central “˜Cask 42.6′ medallion.
Video screens have also been mounted in-store to maximise the visibility of the decanter and to explain its heritage and provenance. They feature images of the original cask, the terroir from which it comes and Rémy Martin cellarmaster Pierrette Trichet.
Aelia Duty Free UK & Ireland Operations Director Phil Manning said: “We are thrilled to be able to introduce such a rare and exclusive product to London City Airport, which has a very discerning customer who is looking for something unique.
“We are the first retail operator in travel retail in UK & Ireland to launch the Rémy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.6, which is quite a coup for us and the airport to be granted such exclusivity. Only a handful of retailers in the world have been selected to sell this bottle.”
Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.6 celebrates the classic Louis XIII blend of 1,200 eaux-de-vie, 100 years in the making, featuring aromas that are unique to the one precious cask. It is said to have notes of plum and dates, mingling with flavours of gingerbread, prune stone and ginger, punctuated by a final touch of tobacco leaf.
A “˜Rare Cask’ is a single, extremely rare barrel discovered among the hundreds of century-old tierçons stored in the Rémy Martin cellars, containing enough Cognac for just 738 decanters.
It is further distinguished by a small but significant increase in alcohol content, beyond the usual 40% of Louis XIII.

Rémy Cointreau Global Travel Retail (GTR) Marketing and Business Development Director Matthew Hodges said: “With such a limited number of decanters of Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.6 in existence for both domestic and GTR markets, we are obliged to be extremely selective in our choice of travel retail sales locations.
“This is an extraordinary product and one which attracts avid attention. We are delighted by the enthusiastic response from retailers and consumers to the release of this ultra-rare gem in the Louis XIII crown.”
Louis XIII Rare Cask 42.6 is retailing at London City Airport for £16,000 (US$24945.60).
