SPAIN. AENA Aeropuertos has launched a tender for car parking concessions across 32 airports in Spain, a business that generated €91 million in revenues in 2012.
The airport company said it was offering contract in two separate lots (arranged by region, see below) for a minimum total bid of €102 million over the term. The contracts run for five years with the option of extensions for up to two years.
AENA said it wanted to “homogenise” the car parking service, make it more efficient and offer higher quality to customers. AENA is seeking to maximise its revenues while lowering costs. In partnership with the winning bidders, AENA said it would oversee the development of parking products and services, pricing and promotions.
AENA said it was aiming to match the best practices at international airports with its car parking services. The contracts will include provision for improved terms for the concessionaires should they hit certain targets.
AENA noted that this area of the business (13.5% of company income in 2012) was currently weak due to the domestic economy, but said it has strong prospects as consumer confidence picks up and as new ancillary services are introduced. Under the new contract these will include terminal pick-up and drop-off, car wash, oil change, small repairs and even technical inspection.
Lot 1 (Northwest region) includes the following airports:
Asturias, Bilbao, La Coruna, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Jerez, La Palma, Lanzarote, Madrid-Barajas, Pamplona, Tenerife North, Tenerife South, Santander, Santiago, San Sebastian, Seville, Valladolid and Vigo.
Lot 2 (Southeast region) includes:
Alicante, Almeria, Barcelona-El Prat, Girona-Costa Brava, Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén, Ibiza, Malaga, Costa del Sol, Melilla, Menorca, Murcia-San Javier, Palma de Mallorca, Reus, Valencia and Zaragoza.
The contracts will begin in June this year.
