URUGUAY. Aeropuertos Uruguay will inaugurate the new-look Rivera International Airport (Presidente General Oscar D. Gestido) on Monda 11 December after an extensive infrastructure renovation and the addition services.
The airport was declared binational in August of this year, following an agreement signed between Uruguay and Brazil.
It is Latin America’s first binational airport in Latin America and the second in the world.
Monday’s inauguration will be graced by President Luis Lacalle Pou and Brazilian authorities.
The US$13 million modernisation and expansion of the passenger terminal was led by Montevideo-based architectural firm GómezPlatero.
The 820sq m terminal features a wide array of passenger service and commercial offerings.
The modernisation process began this March of with the aim of transforming it into a terminal that meets the highest operational safety standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Aeropuertos Uruguay, part of the Corporación América Airports group, manages the airports of Carrasco, Punta del Este, Carmelo, Salto, Durazno, Melo and Paysandú. ✈
