Airports have a key role to play in championing a city’s or country’s craft, culture, tastes and traditions. For visitors they offer the first and last impression of the locality, for that city’s citizens they provide a source of civic pride. An arts & culture programme connects passengers to a place in the same way an airport connects them to the world. Many airport companies embrace that role with pride and passion.

USA. San Diego International Airport is hosting an art exhibition at its Terminal 2, showcasing over 100 works by 16 contemporary regional artists.

On display throughout the year in both pre- and post-security areas, the ‘Mirror Mirror’ exhibition delves into the interplay of light, colour and space. The pieces reflect the influence of the Southern California Light and Space movement, which transformed modern art through innovative use of light and form.

Artists incorporated a range of materials, including interactive LED installations, colourful lightboxes and yarn-based works, inviting travellers to engage with the art on a deeper level.

San Diego County Regional Airport Authority CEO and President Kimberly Becker said, “We are thrilled to bring ‘Mirror Mirror’ to SAN and offer travellers this unique visual experience as they journey through our airport.

“This collection connects viewers to the Southern California arts community and the history that influences this contemporary art. We are grateful to the Airport Authority’s Arts Advisory Committee for their efforts to ensure that the arts are woven into the customer experience at SAN and reflect the richness of the regional arts and culture community.”

All visitors are invited to discover the exhibition, presenting a unique opportunity to connect with contemporary art in an engaging setting. ✈
