Desigual is gearing up for a presence in the big commercial airports of Asia and South America |
As it gears up to exhibit at the TFWA Asia Pacific fair for the first time in May 2012, Desigual has announced plans to reach 60 points of sale at 35 of the world’s top airports by the end of 2012 as part of its international expansion strategy.
The brand is currently present at major airports such as Barcelona, Madrid, Ibiza, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Munich, Miami, New York, Dallas and Houston.
It is also preparing its presence in the big commercial airports of Asia and South America, and plans to open a store in Singapore Changi Terminal 3.
From 1 April, Desigual has been present onboard European airlines including Iberia and Alitalia and is “negotiating entry into the sales channel of other big companies from America and the rest of Europe”, the company said.
Desigual directly operates six stores in Asia, four in Singapore and two in Japan and 18 corners in department stores such as Takashimaya, Isetan, Tangs, Parkson, Sogo, Feds and Lotte, as well as having a presence with more than 200 multi-brand clients across Asia.
First store in China
Additionally, in May, the company plans to open its first store in China, in Shanghai.
“These new openings form part of the expansion strategy for the company, which maintains a strong commitment to internationalisation and innovation,” Desigual said.
“Desigual will continue with the same line of growth and an extensive presence in the busiest airports in the world. This has generated a strong impact and interest among the key operators Aelia, World Duty Free Group and Dufry, with which the company has already concluded different agreements.”
Desigual airport stores – which aim to convey the “Desigual experience and the idea that there is always something different, positive and fun” – offer a wide selection of the brand’s latest products in its women’s and accessories collections.

Exclusive travel wallet
In other news, Desigual has designed a travel wallet exclusively available in Alitalia and Iberia Airlines’ inflight shopping catalogues from 1 April 2012.
The women’s wallet is designed to carry passports, tickets, travel cards, bills and coins. The company described the design as functional, in line with Desigual’s spirit, colour and fun.
The packaging is said to be comfortable and easy to use, featuring a product display window and integrated with the dimensions of the wallet.
