American Express and airport retailers partner in Foursquare campaign

UK. American Express has partnered with real-time location sharing network Foursquare and several retailers to offer statement credit against purchases. The campaign at London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester and Edinburgh airports will run until 31 January 2015.

Passengers can “˜check in’ with their location using Foursquare to see available offers, which they can then add to an American Express card linked to their Foursquare account. Searching for #AmexOffers using Foursquare’s search function will also reveal offers at nearby terminals.

Offers can be redeemed once at each (to a maximum of £70 credit). They include:

• Caffé Nero: Spend £10 and get £5 statement credit
• WHSmith: Spend £10 and get £5 statement credit
• Dixons Travel and Sunglass Hut: Spend £30 and get £10 statement credit
• Harrods and Fortnum & Mason: Spend £65 and get £10 statement credit
• World Duty Free Group: Spend £65 and get £10 statement credit
• Ted Baker: Spend £65 and get £10 statement credit

The campaign harnesses the popularity of airports with users of Foursquare. Last year all of the top ten most checked-in locations in the USA where at airports, while London Heathrow Airport has nearly four times the number of check ins as the second most popular venue in London (Waterloo rail station).
