Amsterdam Airport Schiphol opens extended long-term parking garage

NETHERLANDS. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has opened an expanded long-term parking garage, doubling the number of covered spaces to over 5,000. The P3 facility, which has total capacity for 15,000 vehicles (in covered and uncovered spaces) is the largest overground parking garage in the country.

The expanded P3 facility doubles the number of covered spaces and offers more options for long-term parking at Schiphol.

Schiphol Group hailed the opening, saying it would enhance the “ease and comfort” of parking at the airport.

The terminal is easily accessible from P3 with a free express bus leaving every ten minutes and the journey taking five minutes, noted the airport company.

Schiphol has added 6,000 solar panels on the roof to provide energy, which allow for electric charging points and LED lighting. The energy generated is also used for other parking facilities at Schiphol.

Schiphol Senior Manager Parking & Mobility Services Dieme Ketel said: “In total, the solar panels will generate more than 20% of the total energy consumption of the parking facilities at Schiphol. This is equivalent to the consumption of around 600 homes. We are very proud of this and it is a great step towards making our product more sustainable.”

The new garage extension is inaugurated earlier today.
