Cointreauversial: Dark Velvet Cointreau

DENMARK. Anthon Berg, best known for chocolate liqueur bottles, has unveiled details of its new products for 2010 which aim to build on the company’s expertise in liquor-filled chocolates.

Products from the Toms Group-owned brand will make their debut at the TFWA World Exhibition next month (Stand number: Blue Village B7).

MARZIPAN BARS WITH COGNAC

A new Travellers Exclusive line, Marzipan Bars with Cognac, is described as a luxury extension of Anthon Berg’s trademark product, the marzipan bar. The company says it was the first to introduce marzipan bars to Denmark and its recipe for the bitter-sweet almond paste is also unique to the brand.

The product, developed for informal sharing, contains fine Cognac and adds to the Travellers Exclusive line of eight-piece marzipan bars.

The launch of a third marzipan variant aims to build on the successful sales of the existing marzipan products and meet the current expectations for more informal products on the market, according to Travel Retail Director Peter Dige.

The marzipan bar was created in the late 19th Century as a courtesy treat for the customers queuing up in front of Mr Anthon Berg’s small chocolate shop in Copenhagen.

A recent addition to the marzipan bar line, the Double Dark Nibs bar, was launched in 2007 with great success, said Dige. Double Dark Nibs comprises marzipan covered with crunchy, caramelised cocoa nibs and an extra layer of dark chocolate.

DARK VELVET COINTREAU

New line Dark Velvet Cointreau is described as “a Cointreauversial extension of the liqueur truffle line Dark Velvet by Anthon Berg” – a reference to the famous Cointreau liqueur’s marketing tagline.

The Dark Velvet line is dubbed a “hyper-modern” sister product to Anthon Berg’s chocolate liqueur bottles.

Thanks to the double gold medal-winning Cointreau liqueur, the Dark Velvet line is taken into new dimensions of texture, taste and shape, delicately wrapped in the “Sense It” Anthon Berg brand universe, the company said.

“After only one year on the market, the Dark Velvet line with Piper-Heidsieck Champagne and Rémy Martin Fine Champagne Cognac is already listed with the majority of our customers, and the success continues to grow as we are now launching an addition to the line,” it added.

“We have worked closely together with the House of Rémy Cointreau and developed a fusion truffle to the line – the Dark Velvet Cointreau.”

Cointreau combines fragranced, sweet and bitter, sun-dried orange peels and crystal-clear spirit.

“We have gently whipped this soft-edged liqueur with a piquant mixture of milk and dark chocolate as well as a delicious juice extracted from fresh blood oranges,” said Dige. “Furthermore we have added a little touch of chilli to accentuate the tasty ingredients and to open up your senses for this heart-warming treat.”

The Dark Velvet Cointreau product is said to “obey the law of dominance in molecular gastronomy” where the sweet chocolate flavour is awakened by the acidic notes of the Cointreau liqueur.
