“It is our aim to increase our number of members fast but also to have a broad representation of different stakeholders“ |
Sunil Tuli President APTRA |
ASIA PACIFIC. The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) has recently taken a series of initiatives to provide more value for its members, as well as to prepare for the industry’s future developments in the region.
The new policy of TFWA has enabled APTRA to successfully apply for affiliate membership of the organisation, allowing the latter’s retailer members their first opportunity to be [indirectly] part of the global body.
Last month APTRA President Sunil Tuli organised lunch meetings (sponsored by Maxxium and King Power Group Hong Kong) in Hong Kong and Singapore to obtain feedback from members on how the association could benefit the industry and its members. Alpha’s Paul Topping also held a session in India to examine issues in the Indian market.
Members’ response was “good and varied”, and further discussed in the APTRA board meeting held in Singapore on 28 August, the association said. Some of the issues to be addressed include a research project and other industry-related issues such as the potential ASEAN Free Trade agreement which is being discussed at various government forums.
These meetings, which will now be held on a continuing basis, underline APTRA’s aim to encourage more active participation from its members regarding issues of growth and development.
Besides pushing for more involvement, APTRA has also expanded the scope of its membership with eight new members since May 2008.
APTRA said many initiatives have been planned, and they will be unveiled soon.
