Areas adds La Tagliatella restaurant and self-service Subway to F&B options at Alicante Airport

SPAIN. Leading F&B operator and travel retailer Areas has opened La Tagliatella Espresso and a Subway smart kiosk at Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.

The Subway is the first in Europe to feature Smart Kiosk technology while the 400sq m La Tagliatella Espresso is the first in a Spanish airport.

According to Areas, its strategic agreement with La Tagliatella – a well-known domestic brand – will see the concept extended to other Spanish airports.

La Tagliatella Espresso is an adaptation of the classic La Tagliatella concept, offering traditional, high-quality Italian cuisine in a faster, more functional, and open format that the location, and its passenger traffic, demands. Design characteristics include the use of light wood, comfortable chairs, large murals and windows.

Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is the fifth largest in terms of passenger traffic in Spain, handing over 15 million passengers under normal circumstances.

The airside restaurant offers capacity for 160 diners. Customers can order directly at the counter with breakfast options, paninis, salads and other fresh products included on the menu.

The 200sq m self-service Subway kiosk has a capacity for 80 diners. The outlet offers a revamped Fresh Forward approach and a new cafeteria concept combining breakfasts, including coffee and pastries, with Subs sandwiches. Subway Subs range from traditional tuna, or bacon to teriyaki chicken and meatballs. The outlet also offers salads, wraps, snacks such as baked potatoes and loaded nachos and cookies.

Smart Kiosk technology allows customers to make and pay for their order and pick it up in a specially designated area. Area said it aims to “optimise customer flows, reduce waiting times, and offer new products and menus while also preventing long lines from forming”.

Subway adds a colourful touch to ‘grab&go’ dining at the Barcelona hub

“This new establishment makes use of the ‘grab & go’ concept to meet the needs of the millions of travellers who pass through the Barcelona airport every year at any time of day,” Areas said.

“With the consolidation of Areas in Alicante Airport, the company is present in 19 Spanish airports with more than 180 outlets and is strengthening its already notable presence in the five largest airports by passenger volume.”
