Areas celebrates food & beverage openings at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport

SPAIN. Barcelona-based travel dining group Areas has unveiled a diverse array of food & beverage outlets at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.

The line-up features international brands and local concepts, including Burger King in T1; Le Coq in T2; La Barra de la Bientirada in T4; and two Paul Express outlets, one in T4S North and another in T4S South.

Le Coq is among the dining concepts to be enjoyed by Madrid airport travellers

The new dining venues join an already extensive F&B line-up at the airport, with offerings such as Burger King, Chök, Aloha Poké, La Place, Chia, Santagloria, La Bientirada, Bareto and Flax & Kale.

Le Coq is particularly popular for its roast chicken offering

These concepts form part of the expansive F&B footprint Aena put to tender in February 2023 for Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, representing the largest catering contract by turnover in Spanish airport history.

Areas won 35 of the 55 outlets tendered, accounting for 70% of estimated sales over the eight-year contract tenure.

With these new outlets, Areas has now transformed almost 50% of the F&B offering it won, with 16 of the 35 units already up and running. The revamp is being implemented in phases and will continue to the end of the year.

Other dining outlets to open include Areas’ own branded concept StrEAT, fusing street-food culture with innovative design. It features dynamic spaces and live cooking shows and stands out for the diversity, quality and authenticity of its offering with brands such as Tacos Don Manolito, Udon, VyTA and Rossopomodoro.

Adding to the dining selection in T4, La Barra de la Bientirada showcases Madrid street vibes and casual Spanish cuisine focused on quality products.

In T4S North and T4S South, the two Paul Express outlets feature what is described as an elegant French café style with a friendly atmosphere. They offer an extensive variety of traditionally made sweet and savoury dishes.

Areas Iberia Chief Marketing and Expansion Officer Mireya Muñoz said: “Areas is developing a best-in-class travel food & beverage concept at Barajas based on an extensive revamp and the combination of international brands and leading local concepts.

“We want to make Madrid’s airport our leading commercial showcase and a food & beverage benchmark.”

The Areas F&B programme at Madrid-Barajas Airport includes around 25% brands with longstanding expertise in airport settings, whether internationally (Burger King, Starbucks, Paul, La Place) or in Spain (Rodilla, Santagloria).

Notably, it includes 75% completely new concepts for airport users, including Madrid breweries and dining offerings (La Barra de la Bientirada, Taberna La Ancha with chef Nino Redruello, Viandas de Salamanca, Bareto, Le Coq); healthy, alternative food (Flax&Kale, Aloha Poké, Chia y Chök); ethnic restaurants (Udon, Rossopomodoro, Tacos Don Manolito); and a curated selection of the company’s leading proprietary brands (StrEAT, Deli&Cia, VyTA, Farine). ‍
