Areas partners Grupo Modelo to unveil Pacífico Bar at Tulum International Airport

MEXICO. Global travel restaurateur Areas has expanded its Mexican footprint with the opening of the Pacífico Bar in partnership with Grupo Modelo at Felipe Carrillo Puerto (Tulum) International Airport.

Tulum International Airport is located 20 kilometres south-west from the coastal town of Tulum in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It serves as a gateway for tourists visiting the Mexican Caribbean, the Riviera Maya and the Yucatán Peninsula.

The landside 80sq m bar/restaurant is named after the popular Mexican beer Pacífico, a brand owned by Grupo Modelo.

The bar offers a selection of light pilsner-style beers, cocktails and other refreshing drinks. There is also a variety of food options ranging from classic breakfasts such as enchiladas, omelettes and fresh fruit to snacks and Mexican and international main courses.

The opening is part of Areas’ new seven-year contract at Tulum International Airport, one of six locations in the package.

Areas Mexico Commercial Director Christina Bonelli said: “We are thrilled to announce the opening of Pacífico Bar at Tulum Airport. This new addition is the result of a strong alliance with Grupo Modelo, solidifying our collaboration and bringing our visitors an experience that perfectly complements the charm of Tulum and its paradise-like beaches.

“Pacífico Bar is our fifth concept in collaboration with Grupo Modelo, a clear demonstration of the successful relationship we’ve built and the promise of future surprises. This space has been designed to offer a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, where quality and style meet the unique essence of Tulum.”

Speaking to The Moodie Davitt Report, Bonelli highlighted the success of Areas’ first Pacífico Bar location at Puerto Vallarta International Airport, Jalisco, also a coastal travel hub. The bar/restaurant replaced a previous Areas concept, with the remodelled location delivering an immediate +15% weekly increase in average customer numbers, she noted.

Bonelli added: “Additionally, the more beach-appropriate dining options have allowed the location’s average spend per passenger to grow significantly as well.”

Pacífico Bar is one of five F&B concepts developed by Areas in partnership with Grupo Modelo. They are the Michelob Ultra (example pictured above), Isla Corona, Modelo Cocina and Modelo Snack Bar, located across four high-traffic Mexican airports, including the country’s busiest, Mexico City International. ‍
