Andrew Batchelor: Key new role at ARI

IRELAND/INTERNATIONAL. Aer Rianta International (ARI) has named Andrew Batchelor as Director of Buying and Strategy.

Batchelor has more than 30 years of retail experience in the UK, Europe and the US, most of which has been spent in senior buying and business development roles at Tesco. He begins his new role at ARI in early September.

He began his retail career at Sainsbury’s in the UK in 1976, moving to Tesco in 1987 where, over the next two decades, he worked on Business Development in the US, and as Category Director in the UK and Ireland in the group’s grocery division. He was involved in many major initiatives at Tesco, including the Buy for Less campaign and the development of the retailer’s Joint Business Planning Concept with major FMCG suppliers.

Batchelor left Tesco in 2008 to set up his own retail consultancy business. Since then he has worked with a range of clients including Boston Consulting Group, Premier Foods, La Doria, Bridgethorne, Gustoland of Germany, Musgrave Ireland and Carpetright.

He also served as interim board Trading Director for Musgrave GB on a consultancy basis for a six-month period to April 2009 where he led the implementation of new trading and promotional strategies.

“This is a strategic appointment for ARI,” said ARI Chief Executive Officer Jack MacGowan. “Andrew is the latest appointment to our senior management team and we are delighted to welcome someone of his depth and range of experience as we work to deliver ARI’s ambitious plans for growth over the coming years.”
