ITALY. As it gears up to exhibit at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes for the fifth year running, The Armani Group has announced a series of new openings at airports across the world (stand number: Ambassadeurs Village V5).
The company said it was intending to use the 2009 Cannes platform to demonstrate its “ongoing fast-track expansion” in the travel retail market.
“I am proud of the success we have achieved in the travel retail market,” said designer Giorgio Armani. “Our commitment is not only about selling accessories but also ready-to-wear. I think what makes Armani really unique and distinctive is the fashion brand experience we are able to offer to our customers.”
With 27 retail spaces opened in the last five years, The Armani Group said it had a significant presence in the world’s most important airports “with the support of strong partnerships with leading retailers”.
The strategy for 2009 saw the first travel retail boutique for the Giorgio Armani brand at Hong Kong International Airport in April, covering over 100sq m on one floor.
The airport expansion continued in July with the opening of a 90sq m Emporio Armani store at Paris Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2C; in August, a 90sq m shop in Prague; and, in October, a 80sq m Emporio Armani store in Paris Orly.
In addition, two more airport shop-in-shops opened this year: at Uruguay’s Punta del Este in February, and at Düsseldorf Terminal C in June. Before the end of 2009, Emporio Armani stores will begin trading in Sydney Airport and in Singapore Changi Terminal 3.
