GERMANY. Arnold André, one of the largest tobacco products manufacturers in Germany, is stepping up its travel retail expansion strategy.
Export Manager Konstanze Marth told The Moodie Report at the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas last month that the company would be focusing on its well-known brands in travel retail, including Clubmaster (also see below). The company has supplied leading travel retailers such as Gebr Heinemann and The Nuance Group for a number of years.
Founded in 1817, Arnold André has been exporting its products for nearly 200 years and is distributed in a total of 80 countries. The firm is currently expanding in Asia, Russia and South America, said Marth.
ARNOLD ANDRE BRAND PORTFOLIO
The German company supplies a wide range of cigars and cigarillos, including mini sizes in compact packaging. The best-selling brand line-up includes:
Clubmaster: The first Clubmaster Sumatra and Brazil cigarillos were introduced in Germany in 1972 and both products remain market leaders in the segment of non-aromatic cigarillos today. The success of Clubmaster cigarillos and cigars lies in the pure taste of processed tobacco from Sumatra or Brazil, according to the supplier. The range has been expanded to include small Clubmaster Mini Filter cigarillos and aromatic Clubmaster Vanilla cigarillos.
Vasco da Gama: Vasco da Gama is described as a homage to one of the greatest sailors in history, and only the most select tobaccos from the best cultivated areas of Sumatra, Brazil and Honduras are selected for this cigar, says Arnold André. Each individual cigar is wrapped in a cover made from cedarwood. The Vasco da Gama is the first example of a port-matured cigar, according to the company.
Handelsgold: The traditional Handelsgold brand is one of the best-known cigarillo and cigar brands in Germany. Handelsgold offers a wide selection of cigars and cigarillos and offers “outstanding value for money”, the company said.
Independence: This niche cigar has been available for “easy-going pleasure-seekers” since 1998, according to Arnold André. It combines an unusual appearance in a cool metal tube with a thick cigar made from quality tobaccos. In 2004 Xtreme Vanilla joined the Original Independence. Together with the cigarillos in metal packaging, Independence is one of the strongest brands in Germany.
