Asiatravel.com predicts travel “normalcy” by next month

SINGAPORE. Asiatravel.com Holdings said today that it expects positive earnings in the second half to September as travel demand to Asian destinations, worst hit by SARS, rebounds.

“Bookings for the worst SARS-hit Asian destinations, such as China, Hong Kong and Singapore, started rebounding in June and will likely approach normalcy by August-September 2003,” the company said in a statement to the Singapore Exchange.

It said the number of hotel rooms booked in Singapore, Hong Kong and China in June was +75% higher than in May, the height of the SARS crisis.

The company also said it expects the number of rooms booked in Asian destinations to “continue to improve and lift overall levels for July and August”.
