ASUR will issue tender documents for the ten-year concession by the end of June 2016, and plans to make a decision by 15 October.

“We are looking for the best partner and concessionaire, bringing professional experience at a global level,” Commercial Director Manuel Gutiérrez Sola told The Moodie Report.

“They should be looking forward to working with ASUR’s commercial team, with state of the art stores and accessible prices for passengers.”

No direct negotiations will be undertaken; ASUR’s contact for questions and answers will be Commercial Manager Miguel Mondragon.

The retail space at Cancun consists of the current walkthrough stores – 1,200sq m in Terminal 2 and 1,800sq m in Terminal 3 – and a planned 2,100sq m in the new Terminal 4.

World Duty Free Group (part of Dufry) is the incumbent duty free retailer, a position it has held since 2001.

“All terminals will have last minute shops and branded stores like MAC, Victoria’s Secret, Apple and others,” Gutiérrez Sola said.

T4 is under construction and will be ready for operations in the third quarter of 2017.

The new terminal will have a capacity of 6.5 million passengers in its first phase, increasing to 25 million passengers in the near future.

ASUR completed the renovation of T3 with an official opening in March.

Cancun Airport received 13.6 million international passengers in calendar 2015, a +13.3% increase from 2014; Cozumel Airport had a +3.3% increase to 444,000.

ASUR grew revenues across its nine airports by +53% to MXN9 billion (US$514.9 million) in calendar 2015, with commercial revenues up 26.8% to MXN2.2 billion (US$126.7 million).
