Avondale Jonty’s Ducks 2009 red wine (14% abv) |
SOUTH AFRICA/HONG KONG. Diverse Flavours has announced that leading Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific Airways is to pour its South African red wine label Avondale Jonty’s Ducks 2009 in first and business class cabins.
Commenting on the new listing, Diverse Flavours company owner Anthony Budd said: “It was a fantastic achievement for Jonty’s Ducks to get shortlisted for such a prestigious listing, and to get finally selected is a testament to the quality wines made at Avondale. Congratulations to Johnathan Grieve, the proprietor, and his winemaking team at Avondale.”
Johnathan Grieve commented: “This is tremendous news and we are all very proud to be associated with Cathay Pacific Airways. I look forward to drinking my wine when I next get the opportunity to fly Cathay – it will be a great feeling.”
The red wine is named after a “posse” of ducks which patrol the vineyard looking for and destroying snails, which eat the vines. The ducks are said to be an eco-friendly way to avoid using harmful chemical poisons to kill pests.
