Babička Vodka seeks entry into duty free and travel retail

Babička Vodka, positioned as the world’s first wormwood vodka, is seeking to break into the travel retail channel.

Originating from Prostejov in the Moravian region of the Czech Republic, Babička is a wormwood-infused vodka said to replicate a 500-year-old Czech witches’ recipe. Babička is the Czech term for a band of 16th century peasant grandmothers with a reputation for witchcraft, who frequently gathered wormwood and other herbs to create potions to supplement their income. The wormwood plant featured in many of their concoctions and these Babička recipes are said to represent some of the earliest vodka formulas created.

Babička vodka uses 100% Moravian corn as its single grain. Grown in the fertile low lands of the Czech Republic, it is harvested when young to give Babička a subtle sweetness.

The water used in the production of Babička is derived from two different sources in the Olomouc region. Babička undergoes a six-step distillation process, following which it is put through coal filtration to further purify the vodka. The resulting spirit is then combined with natural spring water.
