BAHRAIN. The ambitious new terminal at Bahrain International Airport is set to open on 28 January, according to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain.
His Royal Highness made the announcement as he toured (pictured below) the Passenger Terminal Building – the central feature of a major Airport Expansion Project – on Sunday. The new terminal has capacity for 14 million passengers a year.
The Crown Prince said that the Airport Expansion Project “will expand enhance the Kingdom’s connectivity and further strengthen its position as an increasingly important hub in the region,” reported state media BNA.
Anchor retailer Bahrain Duty Free has pledged to deliver a “world class shopping experience” at the new facility, where it will run core category duty free and airside speciality retail stores. Retail space is set to increase to around 4,800sq m, significantly more than the existing 1,500sq m. ARI-Middle East, which manages Bahrain Duty Free, recently saluted the efforts of its teams in preparing the space at the new terminal, as reported.
WHSmith will manage the travel essentials concession, with SSP the key food & beverage partner.
The airport development is one of many under the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, supporting the development of a sustainable and diversified economy.
