Bally’s men’s collection for Autumn/Winter 2013 highlights an inspiring 60th anniversary celebration of the first ascent of Mount Everest and a revamped Bally Stripe Capsule Collection.
When Sherpa Tenzing Norgay climbed to the summit on 29 May 1953 alongside Sir Edmund Hillary, he did so in a pair of Bally Reindeer-Himalaya boots. The Swiss brand’s Creative Directors Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz have used this historic event as the inspiration for the Everest collection of boots, leather outerwear, ready-to-wear and accessories – the highlight of Autumn/Winter 2013 (also see below).
Also available for Autumn/Winter 2013, the Bally Stripe Capsule Collection and the new Cervo collection are said to deliver functional elegance, while the professional Bally Injection Moulded Lug Sole and Milano Business collections add the finishing touch, according to Bally.

Injection Moulded Lug Sole Collection
This luxurious, hard-wearing city shoe combines classic brogue style, Goodyear welt construction and a rubber sole that references Bally’s 360 Degree Non-Slip Grip, first patented by the Swiss brand in 1919. Consisting of an Oxford shoe and ankle boot, the collection is crafted from calf leather that is hand-coloured and hand-finished in rich seasonal colours.
Cervo Collection
Lightweight and durable deerskin is used in a new collection of bomber jackets, shoes and bags.
The apparel collection is introduced with a finely grained leather bomber-jacket. The chic, urban silhouette belies the durability of the lightweight deerskin construction. The jacket has a detachable tonal beaver liner and collar.
The Cervo’s Chelsea style and low-cut desert boots feature a lightweight and durable rubber sole. Goodyear welt construction seeks to guarantee long-lasting quality, coupled with a cork insole that adapts to the wearer’s foot for a custom fit.

Milano Business Collection
The rich leathers and craftsmanship of the Milano dress office range are highlighted by four newly developed seasonal colours intended to bring shine to the business world’s traditional monochrome landscape, the company said.
Bally’s warm winter palette was conceived to add original masculine and contemporary flair to the Milano’s range, now extended to cover all business needs: cabin trolleys and bags, computer cases and laptop messengers, document satchels and executive men’s bags.
Highlights include the business travel clutch that features a functional retractable handle and two zipped compartments, a wide and versatile inset and a zip-around pocket with a currency gusset, eight credit card slots and a separate passport and travel documents sleeve.
A newly designed iPad case incorporates a keyboard folio and has easy flap closure for greater security and screen protection. Other small leathergoods include iPhone and Smartphone covers, iPad cases, card holders, key rings and wallets.

Bally Stripe Capsule Collection
The Bally Stripe Capsule Collection is described as a revamp of Bally’s signature red and white stripe, crafted in leather and integrated into a capsule collection of softly deconstructed casual bags that include a tote, weekender and computer bags.
The subtle branding of tone-on-tone embossing is designed to highlight the bags’ calf leather, which has been constructed to minimise seams. The collection is highlighted by a lightweight and functional leather weekender.
Each bag is constructed from soft, durable, chestnut-coloured leather. Adjustable leather handles, practical pockets and a Bally archive-inspired buckle are all design hallmarks of the collection.
The Bally Stripe is crafted from calf skins that have been integrated into each bag’s overall look. A linear trim enhances each piece’s understated style.

Bally Everest Collection Autumn-Winter 2013
When Sherpa Tenzing Norgay climbed to the summit of Mount Everest on 29 May 1953 alongside Sir Edmund Hillary, he made that journey in a pair of engineered Bally Reindeer-Himalaya boots. For Autumn/Winter 2013, Bally will celebrate the 60th anniversary of this historic first ascent of Everest with the men’s Everest collection.
Inspired by items from the original Everest expeditions, including an official replica of the boots worn by Tenzing housed in the Bally archive, Creative Directors Graeme Fidler and Michael Herz have delivered an overall weathered look offered in an array of natural materials and seasonal colours to reflect the alpine arena.
Bally first designed mountaineering boots in the 1940s for the Swiss Foundation for Alpine Research which intended to explore the world’s unknown peaks. Bally footwear was then provided to various Swiss expeditions whose feedback allowed further development.
Key in the Everest collection are four men’s boots based on traditional trekking and alpine styles, recreated with an elevated attitude for contemporary adventurers. Each boot is constructed with a lightweight, moulded lug sole that is said to combine the best of 2013 comfort and performance with Bally’s re-engineered 360 degree non-slip grip, first patented by Bally in 1919. Double-stitch Norwegian construction is a hallmark of the boots.
The Himalaya boot pays homage to the anniversary through its evolution of Tenzing’s reindeer trekking boot. Offered in natural shaved deer skin, the Himalaya redefines the original boot, reinterpreted using sophisticated new technology and detail. The original hook lace-up system has been replicated and updated with an elasticated rubber lace for practicality that makes lacing easier and more comfortable, while still giving an authentic technical feel.
The Vilmos boot also takes its DNA from Tenzing’s original boot but has been styled for a more resort après-ski
look and feel. Crafted in marmot fur with similar features to the Himalaya, both are lined with warm cashmere and built on a waterproof sole system that guarantees warm feet even at Everest temperatures.
For a more durable look, the Vincens alpine boot has a dual-layer system designed to protect and wear well. The weatherproof exterior covers a leather lace-up interior that protects the foot and ankle. A polished metal buckle sourced from the original mountain boots adds a finishing touch.
The relaxed Viller base camp-style boot is designed to provide a classic combination of grip, stability and waterproof protection for everyday wear. Cashmere lined with a technical inner, the boot also uses the traditional
hook lace-up system with the elasticated rubber laces for practicality.

Inspired by the Everest expedition style of Tenzing, the apparel collection focuses on supple calf leather. Crafted to reflect the feel of a luxury winter look, central to the Everest ready-to-wear collection are three outdoor jackets. A down-filled parka in weathered loden leather features cuff strap detail taken from the Everest archive boots; a suede smock top with a waist draw cord is detailed with the same cuff strap; and a second down-filled leather parka is lined with resin-coated storm cotton in yellow ochre for eye-catching colour. Each jacket also features a hood trimmed in detachable marmot fur. Underneath, there is a base-camp hand-knitted heavy gauge roll-neck sweater alongside cashmere knits, a storm shearling gilet, and plain leather or needle punch felt and leather trousers.
The collection’s colour palette honours the 60th anniversary by presenting jackets and other garment details in yellow ochre, which is the colour of the jacket Tenzing wore as he reached the summit of Mount Everest. Overall, the seasonal palette subtly blends a range of alpine inspired colours that include loden, copper beech, charcoal, bark, flint and burnished brown.
The accessories range comprises multi-function bags – including backpacks and weekenders – with a technical waterproof liner and the same heavy top-stitch detail of the boots. They are made from sturdy leathers with internal and external pockets.
