FRANCE. Baltona has opened an expanded duty free store at Montpellier Airport.
The 420sq m Montpellier Duty Free store offers perfumes, cosmetics, sweets, alcohol, travel accessories, and clothes, while there is now a much greater focus on regional products. These include cheeses, jams, sweets, foie gras, souvenirs and wines from the Languedoc region.
Baltona has a 10-year contract to operate the new space. It represents an upgrade on the previous 240sq m store, which the Polish company first began operations at in 2012.
The expanded store has opened as part of a wider launch of an extended terminal at Montpellier Airport. A grand opening took place yesterday (7 May).
“Montpellier is an airport for which we have a special fondness,” said Baltona Member of the Management Board Karolina Szuba.
“In 2012, we won the duty free exclusive licence and this was our first foreign investment. The extension of the contract with the Montpellier Airport confirms that we run our business well.”
On the expanded store, Szuba added: “Thanks to the airport environment we have developed the shop and contributed to building a unique customer experience. I am especially happy that we have managed to create much more convenient shopping space.
“Thanks to our team and good relationships with local producers, passengers can find here a wide range of high quality and delicious regional products.”
Montpellier Airport handled almost two million passengers in 2018, and the extended terminal will increase capacity.
