Biaggi targets travel retail with new foldable luggage range

Biaggi, a newly formed company, is set to make its debut in travel retail with a collection of lightweight and foldable luggage and carry-on pieces.

Biaggi styles feature four wheels and hinge-lock technology, which enable each piece to fold flat. The collections – offered in a range of high performance materials and contemporary silhouettes – are designed to be functional, practical and to address the needs of space-starved travellers.

“Biaggi is meant for the sophisticated consumer who is looking for luggage that is not only practical and durable but has a modern and sophisticated aesthetic,” explained Biaggi President and CEO Ron Hersh. “As an international businessman, I am always looking for product that is not only highly functional but also elegant and pleasing to the eye. Styles from our new Biaggi collections are the perfect answer.

“The new Biaggi foldaway luggage collection is one that I feel will be a game changer in the travel industry. We have transformed the way people store and use luggage forever.”

Biaggi’s four-wheel spinner technology allows for 360-degree movement, while interior and exterior pockets help with organisation. The telescoping, fully adjustable aircraft grade aluminum handle system is said to accommodate users of all heights. There is also a signature storage bag to keep the Biaggi luggage clean and protected.

Retail prices range from US$79 for a nylon wheeled tote to US$339 for a 30-inch ballistic nylon packing case.

The Biaggi team

Hersh also unveiled Biaggi’s new team to help build the brand:

• David Sebens, Brand Advisor, comes to Biaggi as a consultant with many years of brand experience at well-known international companies such as Hartmann, Tumi and Zero Halliburton.

• Michael A Lauri, Executive Vice President, Sales, joins Biaggi from Delsey. With over 20 years in the luggage industry, Delsey’s company sales figures grew by over +20% under Lauri’s supervision.

• Stephen Hersh, Vice President, Sales, has worked in the real estate and acquisition management fields for over ten years.

• Wendee H Lunt, Chief Marketing Officer, joins the Biaggi team as a consultant with experience working for numerous prestige brands such as Tiffany & Co, Coach, Movado and Tumi.

• Lisa R Wells, Vice President, Communications, comes to Biaggi from Reem Acra. Her prior brand experience includes positions at Judith Leiber, Tumi and Hickey Freeman.

The Biaggi collection will be launched at the Travel Goods Show in Las Vegas this month, with duty free orders expected to be shipped at the beginning of May, Biaggi Vice President Communications Lisa Wells told The Moodie Report.

All three of Biaggi’s introductory collections will be launched this June at JFK International Airport Terminal 4, she added.

Biaggi, based in New York, will be available at upscale department and speciality stores around the world. The company has already met with Dillard’s, Macy’s and a few international distributors and have had “a very positive response” from all, Wells said.
