Black Ball Ferry Line introduces duty free onboard MV Coho between US and Canada – 13/04/09

US/CANADA. Black Ball Ferry Line has opened a duty free shop onboard the MV Coho, the Peninsula Daily News has reported.

The 341ft car and passenger ferry crosses the Strait of Juan de Fuca between Port Angeles in the state of Washington and Victoria in British Columbia all year round. This is the first time in 50 years the 90-minute crossing has offered duty free products, the report said.

The decision to open a duty free shop is said to have stemmed from public demand. Washington and British Columbia are among the highest-taxed states and provinces in North America, according to Rian Anderson, Port Angeles District Manager for Black Ball Ferry Line.

Sales on the first day were good, said Anderson, even with no advertising.
