Boost for tourism as China and Thailand agree visa-free travel deal

ASIA PACIFIC. In a positive move for tourism, travel and travel retail, Thailand and China will waive visa requirements for each other’s travellers from March. That’s according to Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavasin, whose comments today were reported by Thai media and news agencies.

As reported in September, the Thailand government gave the green light for citizens from China to travel freely to the country without visas until 29 February. The updated agreement to grant visa-free access for citizens of both states should be formally signed in coming weeks, according to the Thai government.

Thailand should draw major tourism benefits from allowing visa-free access to Chinese visitors

The move to waive visas for Chinese visitors will help Thailand with its goal of boosting tourism from its Asian neighbour.

On 28 November, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced its aim to attract more than 8 million Chinese tourists in 2024, from an estimated 3.4 million in 2023. ✈
