BRAZIL. Empresa Brasileira de Infra-estrutura Aeroportu (Infraero), the government agency responsible for developing and managing 65 airports in Brazil, has won authority from the Civil Aviation Council to manage and develop airports abroad as well as to go after consulting work overseas.
The company has plans to invest US$1.4 billion over the next four years, of which US$249 million will be in 2003, including a 60,000sq m (645,600sq ft) terminal extension at Rio de Janeiro’s Santos Dumont airport and a new terminal at Vitoria airport, in the Espirito Santo state capital.
Infraero president Carlos Wilson, said international business could be a major new profit centre for the agency, which has already bid to manage Luanda airport in Angola, a West African country which has close historical and economic ties with Brazil.
