AUSTRALIA. Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has released the final tranche of a multi-layered Request for Proposals (RFP) at the International Terminal (ITB), embracing ten premium speciality retail opportunities.
As reported, this initiative is part of the hugely ambitious transformation of Queensland’s premier gateway, aimed at enhancing the passenger experience with world-class offerings.
“Our aim is to bring the finest global offerings to Brisbane Airport while showcasing the best of Queensland to the world,” the company said.
In line with that vision, seven new speciality retail sites will be available on the Level 3 departures ‘High Street’, along with two on Level 4.
BAC is welcoming interest from a cross-section of brands and products that can align with its ‘Australian, Holiday Enablers, Aspirational Luxury and Considered Gifts’ retail pillars to take the new offering to the next level, which will complement the food & beverage offerings being introduced throughout the terminal.
The retail refresh and expansion comes as plans are finalised for the upgrade of the International Terminal, as part of the A$5 billion Future BNE transformation of the entire airport.

“An opportunity unlike anything we’ve offered before”
As reported, the latest RFP forms part of an extensive array of commercial opportunities, including travel essentials, foreign exchange and food & beverage at the ITB, as well as a new contemporary high-end bar concept located in the Level 3 departures area.
Level 3 also offers an additional lobby bar opportunity, quick-service restaurants, grab & go kiosk and an all-day café. In addition, two more quick-service restaurants, an Espresso bar and a café/bar will be sited on Level 4, along with a new arrivals café and Espresso kiosk on Level 2.
The company described travel essentials as a quintessential part of the airport retail offering with four opportunities being offered in this category. These include an expanded offer on Level 4 landside Departures, two airside Departure sites on Level 3 and an expanded Level 2 landside Arrivals site.
This refresh is part of a wider BAC project that will significantly transform the ITB. This transformation will see all security and border processing moved from Level 3 to Level 4, allowing the walk-through duty-free Departures store to double in size.
The redevelopment will also enable the creation of a passenger and retail-focused Atrium.
BAC Executive General Manager Commercial Martin Ryan said: “Our aim is to bring the finest global offerings to Brisbane while showcasing the best of Queensland to the world.
“The International Terminal redevelopment presents an opportunity unlike anything we’ve offered before, with approximately 12 food & beverage, 14 specialty and four travel essentials sites available, as well as an exclusive foreign exchange partnership across both the International and Domestic terminals.
“The successful operators will support us in creating a memorable and ‘uniquely Brisbane’ experience for travellers to enjoy as they depart for their holidays or return home.”
Brisbane Airport’s International Terminal already serves over 5.3 million passengers each year, with international passenger volumes forecast to double over the next ten years. ✈
