Budapest Airport to open second hotel as key part of expansion project

Located next to the ibis Styles, the hotel will be tailored primarily for business and transfer travellers as passenger traffic continues to increase

HUNGARY. Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport has revealed that construction work for its latest hotel project has begun.

Set to open in 2025, the hotel – part of the Tribe brand – will feature a direct link to the terminal and form a key part of the airport’s expansion project.

It is the second airport hotel in the Hungarian gateway after the opening of the ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel in 2018.

The airport company noted that this project will continue to enhance Budapest’s profile and boost its competitiveness in the region.

Developed by commercial real-estate development firm Wing, the 8,000 sq m hotel will feature 167 rooms, a 150-seat conference room, two meeting rooms, a gym and a sky bar. To be located next to the original hotel, it will also include a spacious restaurant and lounge area that can accommodate 140 people, while the terrace will seat 60.

Hotels under the Tribe brand are known for their stylish, functional design and affordability. This particular airport hotel will be tailored primarily to business and transfer travellers.

Wing President and CEO Noah Steinberg said: “The ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel, developed by our group, has been operating at almost full capacity since its opening, with excellent guest ratings. Based on existing guest demand and the success achieved, Tribe will arrive in 2025.

“This will be the brand’s second unit in Hungary, alongside the hotel in the mixed-use Liberty building that we also developed. The existing ibis Styles and the new Tribe will be directly connected, and the new complex will be an important milestone in the life of the airport; the development will further expand the airport infrastructure.

“The number of available rooms more than doubles and the additional high-quality services will enable the airport to meet the needs of its guests at a higher level.”

Budapest Airport Chief Development Officer René Droese added: “For Budapest Airport, it is of utmost importance to provide passengers with quality services. To this end, we are continuously developing the airport in cooperation with our partners and through joint thinking.

“There is an increasing need to expand services and capacities in and around the airport as passenger traffic increases; we were therefore delighted to welcome the plan to build a new hotel, which fits in well with our Terminal 3 project and forms part of our Airport City development.

“We are confident that the Tribe will offer excellent services to both business and leisure travellers.”

Accor Eastern Europe VP for Development Frank Reul said: “In addition to its rich historical heritage, Budapest is also a significant regional business centre. As the continuous success of ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel shows, the capital is increasingly popular with leisure and corporate travellers as well.

“With a second property built in cooperation with Budapest Airport, we strengthen Accor’s presence in a strategic destination of Central and Eastern Europe. It is a unique opportunity to expand the portfolio of one of our fastest-growing brands, Tribe in Hungary as well.”

Aside from the expansion of the passenger terminal, Budapest Airport has also updated other related infrastructure and services.

The area to be used for the hotel expansion is integrated into the development of the planned multi-storey car park, the central intermodal hub and the Airport City, with additional office buildings.

Designed by Aspectus Architect, the new hotel building reflects the distinctive facade systems of the ibis Styles.

The airport company has commissioned Ester’s Partners to design the interiors of Tribe hotel, which will feature what is described as a bolder and more dynamic interior design concept.

The hotel is being designed with sustainability in mind and will be one of the first BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) certified hotels in Hungary. ✈
