UK. Manchester Airport is to sponsor a Chinese New Year-themed event marking the Year of the Dog.
‘Pugfest’ is a celebration of the dog breed, and will take place in Manchester’s city centre on 25 February.
The show features the Grand Pug Dog Show as well as Chinese-themed events and activities. These include food and drinks, a fortune teller (for both humans and pugs), calligraphy and Chinese lantern workshops.
Pug owners are being encouraged to kit their dogs out in Chinese and aviation-themed fancy dress – with prizes on offer for the best-dressed pug.
Tickets to the event cost £2 (US$2.82) per person, with proceeds going to The French and Pug Dog Foundation and other dog charities.
It will be the second Pugfest to be held in Manchester, with last year’s show attracting over 4,000 people and 1,000 pugs.
“With direct flights to Beijing and Hong Kong, Manchester Airport is the North’s gateway to China and is sponsoring the event as part of our Chinese New Year celebrations,” said Manchester Airport Head of Marketing Patrick Alexander. “We’ll also be decorating the airport with Chinese lanterns and surprising passengers arriving on a flight from Beijing.”
Look out for a special edition of The Moodie Davitt e-Zine on 22 February in which we will bring you the best of the travel retail world’s celebrations of Chinese New Year, which begins on 16 February.
