Capi launches Mando Footloose electric bike at Schiphol Airport

Capi has launched Mando Footloose, hailed as the world’s first fully electric chainless bike, at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The Korean-built bike is said to offer a new kind of e-mobility that combines freedom of movement with high-end automotive technology. Priced at €3,990, it will be available through Capi’s Home Delivery service for a full year.

The foldable bike, made of lightweight aluminium, offers a hybrid form of travel; the energy generated by pedaling is directly transformed into electricity by a generator and supports the motor with that energy, without any chains.

The e-bike has already claimed Red Dot and iF design awards and is software and sensor driven. According to Capi, the electronic control system enables a secure ride and detects resistance due to slope or wind and automatically shifts gear, giving the feeling of riding on level ground.

With a maximum speed of 25 km/h, the bike runs 35-45 km on one battery charge, depending on surface conditions and support level. The detachable touch display shows the distance traveled, the current speed, driving mode and battery state. Once removed, it acts as a safety system as it is not possible to ride the Footloose without the display.

The promotional launch started in Capi stores in the third week of March and will last approximately eight weeks. During this period, Capi’s flagship Lounge 1 store will be Mando-themed with various in-store presentations, posters and gate sleeves. Travellers will also be able to test ride a Mando bike at the nearby Capi-operated counter store, as well as at Schiphol Plaza.

The promotion is being supported by an an advertising campaign in collaboration with Schiphol Media. In the public shopping area of the airport, large TV screens will show adverts for Mando Footloose and where to buy it; leaflets advertising the e-bike and Capi’s locations will also be available at check-in counters.

Capi-Lux Managing Director Peter Wiggers said: “We are pleased to partner with manufacturer Halla Meister Europe to introduce this novelty to the Netherlands. Capi aims to provide travellers with innovative and inspiring products and the Mando Footloose is a great example of this.

“The e-bike with its pioneering technology and award-winning design will delight a biking nation such as the Dutch as well as our international customers,” he added.

Halla Meister Europe General Manager Jeff Chang said: “We chose Capi to kick off the introduction of this new bike in the Netherlands because of their unique location and their background in successfully bringing innovative products to an international audience.”
