PERU. Leading regional travel retailer Morpho Travel Experience yesterday held the Grand Opening of its new Rumbo Perú destination merchandise concept at Lima Jorge Chávez International Airport. According to the travel retailer, the space “captures the essence of Peruvian culture” with its variety of souvenirs, crafts and local products.

For the past 18 years, Morpho Travel Experience has operated shops and restaurants at Jorge Chávez Airport. These include Britt Shop Perú, Britt Café Bakery, Mercadito Gourmet, CLA and others, with Peruvian identity to the fore at each of them. Rumbo Perú is designed with inspiration from Peru’s coast, highlands and jungle as the platform for this new identity.

Morpho Travel Experience CEO Adriana Echandi said: “Rumbo Perú captures and summarises the extraordinary journey of thousands of tourists who explore Peru, marvelling at its traditions, gastronomy, and ancient culture. Tourists can find a piece of Peru in the store, a small memento, whether it’s a unique craft, gourmet chocolates, coffee or other handmade products.”

In addition to promoting Peruvian identity, Rumbo Perú carries a strong focus on sustainability. Over a six-month project, the store has been built with renewable materials, uses 100% LED lighting, uses wood furniture, with much of its decoration crafted by a local artisan from Callao.

The partners were also joined by Peruvian artisans that work with and are supported by Morpho; these relationships are a strength of the retailer in all of its 11 regional markets.

LAP Commercial Services Manager Marinela Beke said: “At Lima Airport Partners, we continue working to provide the best experience for passengers at the airport, so they can take a positive memory of their visit to Peru. The store’s journey allows them to remember the iconic corners of Peru, and the variety of products is the perfect opportunity for tourists to find everything in one place, taking the best of the country and sharing it with the rest of the world.”

Across an almost 20-year relationship, LAP and Morpho said they “continue to strive to improve the passenger experience, preserving Peru’s cultural essence as a hub connecting with the world”. ✈
