CHINA. French luxury fashion house Balmain last month unveiled a pop-up store in association with China Duty Free Group (CDFG) at the Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay.
CDFG is the exclusive retailer of Balmain within Hainan’s offshore duty free sector, maintaining a closely cooperative relationship with the brand in showcasing its hallmark style.
The pop-up featured the Balmain×Barbie Capsule Collection – sold exclusively in the Hainan travel retail market during Spring Festival.
“For our first retail store in Hainan, we want to design a space that is compatible with our existing stores,” said Balmain President Jean-Jacques Guével during the opening ceremony.

The pop-up interprets the aesthetics of Parisian luxury architecture in a contemporary design language, echoing Balmain’s consistent philosophy of creatively reinventing the norm and boldly breaking with convention.
The Barbie Capsule Collection, curated by Balmain Creative Designer Olivier Rousteing embraces a bold combination of Barbie world patterns with classic Balmain elements of Balmain.
Balmain has applied the eye-catching patterns of Barbie dolls on badges, T-shirts, and hoodies, with the signature Barbie pink applied across the whole collection.
