Whyte & Mackay has released a Jura Red Wine Cask Finish single malt whisky, the first in a series of Cask Editions, which will pay homage to the tiny Scottish island community distillery. It is initially being launched in the UK domestic market (with Sainsbury’s: 1-litre, RRP £44, €49.70) and France (Carrefour: 70cl, €29.90).
Whyte & Mackay said: “The series celebrates the connection between the land and the spirit bringing distinct regional and seasonal flavours to the island malt.”
“In this red wine-finished malt we’ve lifted Jura to a new level” – Whyte & Mackay Whisky Maker & Blender Gregg Glass
Jura Red Wine Cask Finish was matured in American White Oak ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished in European red wine barriques for 18 to 24 months. With a 40% ABV, the whisky offers rich berry flavours, with aromas of sultanas, creamy caramel and Black Forest fruits and a flourish of vanilla, raspberries, strawberries and cinnamon.
Whyte & Mackay Whisky Maker & Blender Gregg Glass commented: “In this red wine-finished malt we’ve lifted Jura to a new level.
“Our whisky is at the heart of an unbreakable bond between our island, our people and our distillery. This release is no exception and a real crowd pleaser, perfect for sharing with friends and family and toasting special moments. With our whisky we want to offer as many people as possible a truly unique flavour of our island home, and we feel our red wine cask does exactly this.”
