These awards celebrate the frontline and back office heroes, heroines, managers and staff within the travel retail community who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty to serve travelling consumers.
They highlight the achievements of travel retail and food & beverage employees across the airport, airline, downtown store and cruise sectors, and celebrate the strength of the human spirit, resourcefulness and ingenuity in the industry.

The Travel Retail Superstars Awards 2024 Categories
Star Team – An award that celebrates those teams who have pulled together, working seamlessly, enthusiastically and effectively, while inspiring each other and those around them. It recognises teams who have gone beyond the call of duty, together, to make a difference and to get the job done to the highest standard.
Star Individual – This award recognises those people who everyone loves to work alongside and encounter in the workplace. For those individuals who always show up both for work and for others, who strive to walk the extra mile, who display integrity and passion, and who communicate with sincerity, friendliness and conviction.
Innovation: Team or Individual – This award is for those who have provided a difference to the business through offering innovative ideas that have been adopted (especially company-wide), and have led to increased efficiency, improvements, profitability or enhanced customer service.
Humanity, Leadership & Inspiration: Team or Individual – An award that celebrates those who have shown that leadership is an action, not just a position, and who encourage good citizenship through compassion and empathy and responsibility.
* For each of the categories, there are awards for four separate regions: Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe and Middle East & Africa. That offers 16 award opportunities.

Winner: The Bridge Travel Essentials Store, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport
Why they were nominated: The Bridge at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport exemplifies social entrepreneurship, combining a travel essentials store with a mission to support the local community and create opportunities for individuals rebuilding their lives.
The team actively engages operators in its initiatives, helping The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center in Dallas serve 600 homeless citizens daily and provide shelter to 300 nightly. Since its opening in December 2023, the store has contributed over US$47,000 to the Recovery Center, showcasing its dedication to creating a positive local impact.
Why they won: The Bridge at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport demonstrates the ethos of this award category by inspiring and collaborating with operators on meaningful initiatives, fostering a culture rooted in compassion, empathy and social responsibility.

Winner: Sean Gazitua, WTDC President and CEO
Why he was nominated: As the third-generation President of WTDC, a worldwide logistics specialist and Foreign Trade Zone, Sean has steered the company’s philanthropic initiatives, directly benefitting hundreds of children and women.
His key sustainability efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, setting a benchmark for corporate responsibility in the logistics industry.

Winner: Lagardère Travel Retail UAE, Zayed International Airport
Why they were nominated: The Lagardère Travel Retail UAE team has fostered an employee-centered culture through wellness programmes, employee benefits and a balanced work schedule.
They have also led CSR efforts by joining the Emirates Nature WWF Leaders of Change Program, with over 50 employees taking part in more than 200 voluntary sessions within four months, demonstrating their commitment to wellbeing and community impact.

Winner: Alison Duke, Blackjack Promotions, Newcastle Airport

She has provided essential emotional and practical support, including home visits and regular check-ins with team members undergoing medical treatment.

Innovation – Back Office – Asia Pacific
Winner: Brand Management and Design Team (Matt Liao, Jin Cheng, Lin Qiao, Minglu Lyu, Fan Wang, Yiran Wang, Mo Chen), China Duty Free Group (CDFG)
Why they were nominated: The Brand Management and Design Team of CDFG’s Brand and Marketing Department took full charge of the C-LOONG campaign, a pioneering initiative that introduced the first IP based on the 12 Chinese zodiac signs in China’s duty-free industry.
This innovative concept has been rolled out across CDFG’s online and offline retail channels, establishing it as a cultural hub for a global audience.
Why they won: CDFG’s Brand Management and Design Team exemplifies innovation, with their creativity and collaborative approach being key to enhancing the company’s premium image, reinforcing its consumer appeal and its position in a competitive market.

Winner: Dubai Duty Free Merchandising Team (Oracle SIM Handheld Devices), Dubai International Airport
Why they were nominated: The Retail Support – Merchandise Team at Dubai Duty Free has been instrumental in revolutionising operational processes with the introduction of Oracle SIM (Store Inventory Management) Handheld Devices.
This innovation has digitised inventory management, reduced paper waste and optimised the workflow of both merchandisers and shop floor staff.
Why they won: The Dubai Duty Free Merchandising team’s trailblazing initiative reflects the essence of innovation, preparing the organisation for future technological trends and reinforcing its competitive advantage in a dynamic travel retail landscape.

Winner: Edreena Poras, Emirates Leisure Retail Bars & Restaurants, Dubai International Airport
Why she was nominated: Edreena has exemplified outstanding leadership and innovation throughout her 13-year service at Emirates Leisure Retail.
One of Edreena’s key contributions was developing internal airport magazines, which has been instrumental in boosting team morale and fostering communication across outlets.
In the face of difficult situations, such as the severe Dubai weather in April 2024, she proved her commitment to operational success. Edreena’s ability to manage complex tasks and high-pressure challenges highlights her valuable contributions to the company.

Winner: Sean Gazitua, WTDC President and CEO
Why he was nominated: A widely respected leader in the industry, Sean’s exceptional leadership at WTDC is evident in his strong commitment to operational efficiency, employee wellness and community service.
Notably, he has maintained a stellar safety record, with zero accidents reported since 2004, and launched comprehensive health programmes that promote both physical and mental wellbeing.

Winner: Leela Ahmed, Maldives Airports Company Associate General Manager, Business Planning & Reporting, Duty Free Department, Velana International Airport
Why she was nominated: Leela has demonstrated a broad skill set across several areas throughout her decade-long service at Maldives Duty Free, including Finance, Business Development, Business Planning, and Management Reporting, as well as stepping into the Acting Head of Duty Free role.
Over the past year, Leela has led the Business Planning & Reporting for the duty-free department, overseeing budget preparation, performance reviews and key presentations for major seminars. She guided her team through successful business development initiatives that met sales targets for 2023 and maintained strong momentum to achieve half-year sales goals for 2024.

Winner: Rocky Khan, Bacardi Retail Ambassador, Heinemann Sydney Airport
Why he was nominated: Rocky has been an integral member of the Bacardi team for 18 years, consistently delivering outstanding results through his passion for the brand and proactive communication.
Fluent in five languages, he excels in engaging customers, particularly in the premium category, and is a leading contributor to annual sales.

Winner: Mushtaque Nuriddin Nadkar, Dubai Duty Free Sales Assistant, Dubai International Airport
Why he was nominated: Mushtaque consistently upholds a high standard of service, exhibiting a combination of skill and professionalism.
His commitment is evident in the positive feedback and recommendations from customers over the years. Beyond providing excellent service, Mushtaque actively pursues growth through continuous learning, ensuring that he continues to set the standard within travel retail.

Despite significant challenges, the collaboration between the travel retailer and Lima Airport Partners has delivered remarkable results, making the new terminal a standout retail destination in Latin America and a centre for Peruvian gastronomy.
