
Lagardère Travel Retail Germany CEO Thomas Wiesel (50) is stepping down at the end of 2019 after more than seventeen years with the company, and almost 15 years in the CEO role. After joining the company in 2002 as Chief Financial Officer, Wiesel was appointed CEO in 2005.
The move “takes place by best mutual agreement” said parent group Lagardère Travel Retail and the search for his replacement is continuing the company told The Moodie Davitt Report.
Under Wiesel’s leadership Lagardère Travel Retail Germany was strategically restructured and significantly realigned as a provider of tailor-made travel retail solutions for traffic hubs.
This led to expansion in the market where the company now operates 150 shops at eleven airports and 50 rail stations under some well-known fascias including Relay, Virgin, Hub Convenience, Coffee Fellows and the Frankfurter Markthalle Foodcourt at Frankfurt Main Station.
Under Wiesel’s management, Lagardère Travel Retail Germany developed from a press and book retailer to become a diversified retailer and F&B operator at at airport and rail transport hubs.
Wiesel said: “I would like to thank the Lagardère Travel Retail Group and all my colleagues for the good cooperation, the trusting relationship and the very successful work over the past 17 years.”
Chairman and CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail Dag Rasmussen added: “We would like to expressly thank Thomas for his many years of successful and dedicated work and we wish him every success in his professional and personal life in the future.”
