Chabot Armagnac has partnered with Duty Zero by cdf to develop a special vintage celebrating Hong Kong International Airport’s 20th anniversary.
Duty Zero by cdf is a joint venture between China Duty Free Group and Lagardère Travel Retail which was created last year to bid for (and ultimately win) the liquor & tobacco contract at the airport. The Grand Opening of its eight-store network took place in July.
The limited-edition Chabot Armagnac Single Cask 1998 Vintage is Chabot’s first single cask expression. It is exclusive to Duty Zero by cdf and to the channel. The 210 bottles are numbered to emphasise the vintage’s quality and rarity.

Each bottle is presented in a lined wooden box with tasting notes and certificate of authenticity.
The vintage was launched in-store in July. Chabot Armagnac has a GWP offer of a free trolley on purchases over HK$1,800 (US$229) of all Chabot Armagnac products, including the Single Cask 1988 Vintage.
“This new venture for us, a single cask, is something that we are extremely eager to develop with our retail partners.”
Chabot Armagnac President Kathleen Gentzbourger said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Duty Zero by cdf with this very special anniversary vintage. It’s a first for us, and is very exciting to be celebrating 20 years of the stunning Hong Kong International Airport with an equally remarkable Single Cask vintage.
“Chabot Armagnac has a history that goes back to 1828 and we have a well-deserved reputation for superlative products from our VSOP Gold to Extra to No. 8. This new venture for us, a single cask, is something that we are extremely eager to develop with our retail partners. We have enough vintage stock levels of various years to be able to create bespoke products that are both exclusive to the channel and the retailer.”
Product details and tasting notes
Single Cask 1998 Vintage (42.8%ABV) is amber-coloured with copper sparks. Fruit aromas include mango, stewed apples and dried apricots, with hints of fresh pastry and rancio, said Chabot. The brand owner noted that a sense of peppermint comes from ageing in oak casks; its finish is described as intense and long with hints of honey and light tobacco.
