SINGAPORE. Participating stores in the public areas across Singapore Changi Airport’s four terminals will continue to absorb the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the new year, even as it increases from 8% to 9% from 1 January.
The benefits are available to shoppers who sign up for the free Changi Rewards loyalty programme.

For nine days in January (12 to 14, 19 to 21 and 26 to 28), under the long-running ‘2XGST’ promotion, shoppers will also get an additional -9% off their purchases with a minimum net value of S$30 after deducting all other discounts. In addition, customers who spend a minimum of S$60 and pay using Mastercard via Changi’s digital wallet Changi Pay will receive a S$9 Changi Pay return voucher credited to their account.
First launched in September 2010, the ‘2XGST’ promotion has become one of Changi Airport’s signature campaigns. It does not extend to Jewel Changi Airport, restaurants or non-participating stores such as supermarkets.
Changi Airport Group Vice President for Landside Concessions Phau Hui Hoon said, “We have been working with tenants to absorb GST for retail spend in the stores of our public areas since 2009 and are glad that this partnership has continued till today. Coupled with the ‘2XGST’ promotion in January, we hope to not only bring our tenants more sales, but also treat shoppers to a little reprieve from the GST hike and spread some cheer ahead of the upcoming festive season.”
Latest T2 stores open
Since the full reopening of Terminal 2 in November, more shops have been added to the retail mix across its public areas. These include traditional Chinese medicine retailer Eu Yan Sang (pictured below), scent specialist Lynk Fragrances and gift shop Baker’s Well. Customers in these stores can benefit from the GST absorption and double GST promotion ahead of the forthcoming Lunar New Year season.
Several new restaurants have also opened in T2 (these are excluded from GST absorption).
A-Roy Thai, known for its Northeast Thai cuisine, features signature dishes such as Lemongrass Salad or Steamed Seabass with Spicy and Sour Soup, plus Changi-exclusive Thai Crab Curry Rice Noodles.
Japanese outlet Ramen Keisuke Singapore (below) offers specialty ramen infused with a local twist such as the Changi-exclusive Bak Kut The (pork rib broth) and Laksa (spicy coconut soup) flavours.
Ginza Tendon Itsuki offers tempura (fritters) while the mezzanine level at Jones the Grocer, set to open in January, features a restaurant, show kitchen and island bar with sweeping views of the terminal. ✈
