SINGAPORE. Changi Airport has recreated some of the world’s major landmarks in the form of sculpted trees for the festive season, in both the public and transit areas of Terminals 2 and 3. The festive drive is accompanied by a major shopping promotion at the airport.
Designed to showcase Changi’s connectivity and its position as Singapore’s gateway to the world, the topiaries include the Eiffel Tower, Sydney Opera House, Temple of Heaven, and Singapore’s own Merlion. Accentuated with decorative lights, these topiary displays – which stand up to nine metres tall – provide visitors with a memorable experience and photo opportunities, Changi Airport Group (CAG) said.
At the biggest topiary display site at the Terminal 3 Departure Hall, where the Merlion topiary is located, miniature figurines of the Statue of Liberty, Taj Mahal, the Pyramids of Egypt and other famous world landmarks complete the line-up. There, visitors can also get their photos taken at special photo kiosks.
To add in an element of fun, Angry Birds characters – from the popular smartphone game – are featured riding on hot air balloons and blimps decorated with blinking lights at the topiary display sites. Until 31 January 2012, visitors can redeem Angry Birds plush collectibles by spending S$50 by VISA or S$80 by any other means in the public area or spend S$80 by VISA or S$100 by other means in the transit area.

In addition to the topiaries, there are floral displays of Christmas trees and flowers located across each terminal, featuring poinsettias, reindeer, sleighs, baubles and gifts.
Carol singers will also be performing in Changi’s main terminals: At the Merlion topiary site at Terminal 3, there will be carolling from 7pm to 7.30pm on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in December, with the sessions extended to 9.30pm during the Christmas weekend (23 to 25 December).
Changi’s giant inflatable bouncy castle also makes a return this Christmas. Measuring about 17 metres wide and eight metres tall, the inflatable castle is located at Terminal 3’s Departure Hall Row 11 and is open from noon to 10pm daily, until 8 January 2012. To admit a single child, visitors have to produce a receipt with any amount spent at Changi Airport, or present the Changi Rewards card.
Santa and his elves will also feature several times a day at the main terminals. Children of up to 12 years of age can also participate in workshops to learn how to make Christmas baubles, decorate Christmas trees and design T-shirts. The workshops are held twice a day at 2pm and 4pm at Terminal 3’s Basement 2 until 2 January 2012. For a single entry into one of the workshops, visitors have to present up to two receipts combined with a minimum spend of S$80 (S$50 for Changi Rewards members).
To facilitate late night Christmas shopping, the opening hours of shops at the public areas of Terminal 3 will be extended on Friday and Saturday nights until 23 December 2011. On these nights, shops at Terminal 3’s public areas will close at 1am, instead of 11pm.
During these two extended hours of shopping, shoppers will encounter a series of shopping promotions, including a “˜Sure Win Lucky Dip’ with prizes such as the iPad 2 and Changi Dollar Vouchers to be won. They will also enjoy free parking or S$10 taxi vouchers (limited to the first 150 shoppers daily, terms and conditions apply).
Until 8 January 2012, visitors can visit the Fans of Changi Facebook page www.facebook.com/fansofchangi to take part in the “˜Snap and Win’ photography contest. By uploading their photographs taken of the Christmas celebrations at Changi Airport, they stand a chance to win prizes including the iPad 2, Changi Dollar Vouchers and Angry Birds plush collectibles.
