INDIA. Airports Authority of India has issued a tender to manage all retail across the existing terminals as well as the planned New Integrated Terminal Building at Chennai International Airport. The concession runs for seven years, from the date of the contract award. The winning bidder must operate the concession for a minimum of 3.5 years.
At stake is 634sq m of space in Terminal 1, 426sq m in International Terminal 4, plus 1,363sq m in the new Integrated Terminal, Phase 1.

The space is further split into 489sq m in domestic departures; 145sq m in domestic arrivals; 426sq m in international departures; 166sq m in international arrivals phase one plus an additional 20sq m in phase two; 58sq m and 84sq m respectively in the New International Terminal departures, phases one and two; 1,215sq m and 812sq m respectively in the New International Terminal Mezzanine, phases one and two.
Chennai International Airport served 9.53 million passengers during Financial Year 2021-22 (to 31 March) and is expected to serve 18.63 million passengers in 2022-23. This compared to 22.26 million in 2019-20. Projections for 2023-24 set out the airport’s ambition to serve 24.26 million travellers.
AAI proposes a Minimum Guarantee of Rs.24.30 (US$0.29) per passenger for the spaces available. It also cited a concession model involving a Quoted Annual Guarantee or Progressive Revenue Share, whichever is higher.
Qualifying bidders must have an annual turnover of Rs.29,05,06,196 (US$3.5 million) during two of the last seven years, shown in audited financial statements.
A pre-bid meeting took place on 14 February with online submissions due by 2 March. The opening of technical bid documents takes place a day later, with financial bids opened on 15 March.
