US. The City of Chicago Department of Aviation has launched an RFP (Request for Proposals) for retail, duty free and food & beverage concessions at Chicago O’Hare International Airport Terminal Five, the “International Terminal”.
The RFP contains one package of 15 separate concessions totalling 16,592sq ft (1,542sq m) plus food court seating of around 2,745sq ft (255sq m). The selected concessionaire may sub-contract up to 50% of the space to other companies. Submissions will be accepted until 30 March 2007 with the contract expected to begin in Summer 2007. The contract is for eight years with the option of a two-year extension.
T5 is the airport’s main international terminal, comprising a single terminal with 21 common use gates. It handles all international departures by foreign flag carriers. In 2005, T5 handled 2.0 million international departing passengers.
Duty Free Americas operates the duty free concession, which was worth US$18.8 million in sales in 2005. There are two duty free locations available under the concession, covering 6,325sq ft (588sq m).
There is one speciality concession and five news and gift concessions, which were worth a combined US$6 million in sales in 2005. Eight food concessions provided US$8.1 million in sales in the same year.
As part of the agreement, the airport requires investment of US$200 per square foot per store and US$100 for each square foot per kiosk. The minimum investment is US$300,000.
In October the airport issued an RFP for one package of four duty free stores in Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, which closed last month.
